Dark Meditation Retreats

Will you find light in the dark?

A darkness meditation retreat can provide an intense and transformative experience. It can be amazing, uplifting, and ecstatic, but it can also uncover hidden memories, unresolved emotions, and inner fears. Practicing in complete darkness facilitates pratyahara, the withdrawal of the senses, allowing your inner clarity and vision to awaken.

From the moment you arrive at Bliss Haven, you’ll sense a nurturing environment. Take a refreshing swim in the pool on the property or in the nearby ocean. Explore the vibrant town of Mazunte as you prepare for a deep journey into your soul.

A dark retreat is a calling. Meditating in the dark for extended periods can lead to inner transformation, healing, and profound shifts in consciousness. At Bliss Haven, we’ve held space for individuals contemplating major life changes or seeking peace with themselves and others.

About The Retreat

You can choose the length of your dark retreat, typically starting with 3, 5, or 7 days. Meditation in the dark is rooted in ancient Ayurvedic and Tantric traditions of India and Tibet. It’s an approach to spiritual development and self-realization where darkness itself becomes the guru or teacher. Prior preparation is recommended, including a vegetarian diet, daily spiritual practice, and setting a clear intention to enrich your journey.

 Retreat Itinerary:

  • Sunset at Punta Cometa: Experience one of the world’s most beautiful sunsets, set intentions for your retreat, and prepare to enter the darkness.
  • Candle Ceremony & Blessing: Before closing the door, we’ll light a candle and offer a brief blessing.
  • Breakfast & Dinner Delivered Daily: Enjoy lovingly-prepared vegetarian dishes.
  • Walk to Sunrise: On the final day, awaken pre-dawn and watch the sunrise, welcoming you back into the light.

The Chambers

Bliss Haven offers three temperature-controlled and well-ventilated dark meditation chambers. Specifically designed for this purpose, they feature insulated windows and doors, curved walls, and minimal furniture (a single bed and bedding, a stool, and an eating counter with an attached food box) to provide a comfortable, safe, uncluttered, and quiet space for insightful and sustained practice. The chamber includes a bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower, as well as a practice area with a yoga mat and meditation cushion. Drinking water is provided in the space itself, and there’s an emergency light switch next to the door to communicate with us if needed.

Meals

Fresh vegetarian meals are prepared on-site with love, and the menu plan can be customized to meet your dietary needs. Meals are delivered twice daily from the kitchen to the light-isolated food box in your room in under a minute.
